Anyway - this post is about lj and, more specifically, tags! Yay, i'm finally doing some. I'm gonna eliminate the memory thing altogether, i'm thinking. Wheeeeee! Anyway.

I'm doing tags on stuff, I want to have a little sidebar that has all my tags in. How, how, how do i do that? Is my particular 'style' or 'theme' or whatever not accomodating of those? I can't really tell!

And if it does *not* supoprt tags, is there one that looks a lot like this one that *does*? Please, people who do their own lj customizing - halp!

Also - lj's 'inbox'. Did not know i had this. Can i turn it *off*? There are over 100 pages of crap in there. I can only delete one page at a time, i'm pretty sure. Taking. Forever.

tags in sidebar?

1. Journal -> Customise Journal
2. Choose page set up / bar on right
3. Bottom of the page choose Customize Selected Themes
4. Look on lefthand side of page for list of things you can customise (Display, Style, Text, Components, Links List, Custom CSS)
5. Choose Components
6. Scoll down and click YES for Enable Tags List
7. Save changes

That should work.

Punquin Elegent does not support tags. Sadly but if it helps people can just type in tabaqui.livejournal.com/tag and that will take them to a listing of tags that you have.

Err, do you mean it sends you a message when someone comments or something? If that's so all you have to do is click on message and then manage message settings and then unclick and save. If it's not that then I'm afraid I have no idea.

I looked around in the customization and I don't see where you can turn on tags. There might be code you can use (most styles have that), but it wouldn't be a simple turn on.

If you have a paid account, I use component and I've always liked that style. Very easy to turn tags on. Also, off the top of my head, I know smooth sailing and flexible squares both support tags. I like the look of the smooth sailing. I use that for my fic journal and my RP character journals so I know it's available for free accounts.

I wrestled with the goddamn tags thing for fire_fic until I couldn't see straight and never managed to get them up there! I have a paid account too, and do my own layout, which is Three Column. So i'll be reading all your comments!

My best cheating guess is that you could rig whatever type of layout Snow has to accomodate both your header and the tags list -- it looks kinda like both of our pages. As for futzing with code, baby you are stronger than I am -- cold and all.

Unfortunately, the message center thingie cannot be turned off, but you are quite within your rights to completely ignore it. You can delete them one page at a time, thankfully the little box in the top left hand corner of the inbox will check every visible entry in one go so hitting delete gets rid of the whole page, 15 posts at a time.

I find it helpful because now I can get notification of posts to Bloodclaim, for example, so I can stamp on any trolls in very short order. :D

In conclusion WTF Tornado warnings?!

(I want tags on my layout too. I may have to go and harass Literati until she reworks my code for me. :D )

Yeah, that inbox thing is annoying as all fuck. Actually, someone said it *can* be turned off? If you click the 'manage settings' thing on the top right corner and then uncheck anything that's checked. I've done it, i'm still getting comment notification to my regular email, so this might very well be the trick. I'll check in a minute and see if they've stopped coming in.

I hate that you can only delete a page at a time! Annoying.

And I know you got some help already, but on my fic comm, I just put a link to the tags page on the sidebar because it wasn't an option with the style I was using unless I was willing to sacrifice a baby or howl at the moon while dressed as a duck or something (in other words, I couldn't figure it out). You might be able to do that - it was simplest for me.

I have no advice on the lj, sadly, but I see others are much wiser than I. I think it's strange that any theme would be designed not to take advantage of every feature offered, especially one so significant as tags, but... what do I know.

How do you want your tags to be listed? I mean Smooth Sailing has them one after the other on a single line, Expressive allows you to have a tags cloud, Flexible Squares has one tag per line I believe. See what I mean? I can code any of those for your current style but I need to know what you want. :)

The tornadoes are usually april-july kinda things, and we're fine, actually. Sirens half the night, torrential rain, all kinds of crazy. Not on for January, although better than house-crushing ice.

Yes, cold of dooooooooooooom, got sack'o'meds from the doctor's sample stash *thank christ* and hopefully will be better soon. If the damn meds don't kill me. Gaaaaaah.
