Hullo! I've put the next chapter of 'Changes' up on my site.
And i have...i dunno...notes?

First, there is some Spanish in this chapter...Derio speaks! Hee.
The thing is, i have no real clue if it's RIGHT. I asked a Spanish speaker to traanslate for me but he admited his Spanish was 'rusty', so... If it's totally, completely, HORRIBLY wrong, for the love of all that's...unholy, TELL ME! I hate to think anyone who can speak the language is reading it thinking 'god, what a moron!'. Or feeling insulted 'cause i mangled their native tongue. Also, Derio is from Puerto Rico, so if that makes a big difference i'd like to know.

There is also a little bit of home-made Santeria in here. It's probably not 'right' right, but i'm thinkin' the boi is a bit like my friends and i when it comes to our own practices - take what you like from all sources and make it work, and don't worry about the 'structure' imposed by others. Unless it'd get you killed.
'Eclectic' is the word. So, please don't be upset if Santeria is your relision of choice - we mean no disrespect! And would welcome input!!
Anyway - enjoy!

Changes Chapter 15: Breathe

And I was just about to go to bed.
You are evol.
Unintentionally, I know.
But evol, nonetheless.
Off to read.

*chuckles*

Giles with the stiff-shouldered, head-down posture he adopts when emotions are too near the surface. Great call.
*reads more*

...and...

Oh my...

*shudders*
So beautiful you've got me crying here. And shaking.
Just..
Oh fuck.
-This- is why we love them. I have a whole dissertation unwritten about the lure of vampire/were/changers lore. The beast/human thing. The way that we feel out of touch with our animal natures in this hard, gleaming modern world. And the longing for it. The desires to reach down deep and find the dark earth and thrumming instinct at our cores that are blocked by culturing and civilizing. How hard it is, how much it's been written into us that 'animal' is bad, when it is part and baseline and inherent and shouldn't be ignored. Tempered perhaps, but never ignored, or tossed aside. Guts and lizard brains and all.
-This- is lush and it sings, lovely one.
I'll probably have hunting dreams. *grins*
I'm glad I stayed up to read it.
You are just as precious and insightful and poetic and raw as you are evol. And I thank you for it.
*swallows*
Amazing.

Whoa, I'm just...give me a sec...
:: breathes deep ::
Ok, I'm okay now. Alright, I know and you know that you rucking fock, but this, man, the imagery blew me away. Your description of the woods, the scents, THE HUNT!! Unbelievable!! I'm nearly wordless.
:: gushes. repeatedly. ::

On a side note plancha is more like the iron you press your clothes with; iron the element is hierro or there's acero which means 'steel' and metal which of course is 'metal' but with a latin accent.

So glad you liked!
Under. Statement. ;)

Also, if you have any translation questions feel free to ask me. I live on the border between the US and Mexico (El Paso, TX), I'm fairly fluent, as is the rest of my mom's side of the family, so even if I don't know I can find it out for ya.

There are subtle differences between Mexican Spanish and Puerto Rican Spanish, however for the most part they're the same.

Yeah, I took French and American Sign Language in High School, since I had already learned Spanish; however the French and ASL have flown out the window that is my brain and only the most basic stuff is still there. Although, I still put 'quadrilingual' on my resume, 'cuz it looks really impressive and no one ever calls me on it.

This was freaking perfect! Love a wolf Derio, really I do. I hate to see the pack split up with the girls left behind, but at least the bois are doing well and Spike is getting better.

You did good with the Santeria luv, at least from what little I know. Love the prayer beads, that was great and your description of the feeling of charged beads was great!

Great job!

Perfectly wonderful chapter.
Pefect.

Great chapter. The hunt was definitely not OTT - more HOT!
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 10:09 am (UTC)
Gorgeous chapter, hun! I'm so happy that Derio is fully part of the pack! *hugs him* I really love that boy.
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 12:07 pm (UTC)
Fuck that was a good chapter! This fic often has a breathless quality to it, like I'm immersed in their world, and this chapter is no exception. Your description of the North West was great, the feel of the forrests around Mt. Rainer perfect. I love the pack, I'm so glad Derio's change went well. You rock!

Julia here,

Still majorly impressed with your imagination and abilities and everything, but... PIKE place, no "S", that's a mark of not-being-from. OK, Xander's not, but it's the mistake which gets corrected by everyone who hears it, every time it happens (right up with calling Puget Sound "the ocean";being a mossback I call it the saltchuck, but that's WAY excessive).

Thanks for the gift of your words and ideas!

And Julia again: after that quibble, I want to say to you what I've said before to others: when I read "Letters" I thought you *were* from here, so you mostly get things right and the ways in which you evoke place, accurately and with grace, are right up there with the $65 a bottle smut as reasons I read your fics in preference to most other writers.

So, how's the sequel to "Little Runaway" coming"?

Beautiful and fantastic! i am so ready for this story to be free of the canon and just be yours! I like it better that way. Just like this! and hopefully Jack will come back to visit? :)
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 05:45 pm (UTC)
Oh, i'm sure it won't disappoint! I love Jack ~ miss him! i can wait! Oh, and i love the beaded Wolves! I was hoping Derio would still have his beads when he changed, and he did!and this isn't a suggestion or anything,(it's really not!) but i have to share a funny thing i got in my head, when the wolves started running and spooking the prey ~ snicker ~ i saw them getting skunk-sprayed and Xander and Spike having to give them a tomato juice bath when they get home, and you know, Spike swearing and all, but first they have to burn their clothes, and drive back home naked... :)
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 08:24 pm (UTC)
Well how about burning their clothes and driving home naked just for fun, then? ;)

Whew! that was just amazing. Totally Hot and Raw and just....whew. Set the blood flowing that did. Hope you didn't hurt the Mr. too much after writing.*snerk*

I did absorb the begining with Buffy having to sell the house, Willow's leaving and the seperation from Dawn and Tara, just the last part sent all that deliciousness right out of my brain as all the blood flow went south.

*going to get drink of ice water now*

::aches for Tara and Xander and Buffy and Dawn and Giles who has to live with Willow and some of the worst damage she did... and for Buffy and Dawn for being left behind... cuddles Tara for staying... and Spike, all guilty for the pain of separation::

::worries over Ethan and Ethan's magic:: He doesn't perceive himself as much beyond it, does he?

Oooo. Such vivid... ::starts planning vacation to WA rainforest...::

And the beads and the power and the additional binding...

And the hunt... ::snaps and stretches and stalks::
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 09:18 pm (UTC)
predatory grin. stalk...stalk...Pounce! ::pins you down and licks you all over::
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 10:21 pm (UTC)
::licks lips contentedly and settles in...::

And as for the in relationships too fast thing? Pah.

Xander'd had two years of it sneaking up on him and months of figuring it out.

We have canonical evidence that once Spike experiences that paradigm shift he falls hard and fast.

Giles and Ethan are just recovering from years of denial. The combined effects of Buffy's death and Ethan's torture at the hands of the people Giles handed him over to...

And as for Oz and Derio? Oz had the wolf's instincts working for him. The awareness of potential pack would have brought down all sorts of barriers and people tend to either run like hell from that or reciprocate...

Then all four of them went through some substantial crap together... So.. Nope. Still with you all the way along.

::preens::

::dances off to re-read "Changes"::
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 08:28 pm (UTC)
... wow.. I'm sorry but everytime i start to think about what to write about this my mind just goes blank so.. wow..
Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 08:37 pm (UTC)
Meant to mention...

Minor typo - His own strand was under his layers of clothing, a faint whisper of power singing through him whenever Xander really though about it.

And dientes are plural - los dientes, so it would be usar sus dientes... the article needs to match the object in gender and number in Spanish...

but I got too wrapped up talking about the story and I forgot. ::rolls eyes and grins::

So hot and so beautiful. I loved the pack's coming together (no pun intended) -- both times; in human form and wolf/demon/hyena form. Lovely.

I feel for those left behind, though, Dawn and Tara, and Buffy, and also for Giles and especially Ethan.

Love this story!

What a wonderful chapter... But pleeeease don't leave so many people behind forever! Can we have a "Sunnydale North" up in Seattle or something? I liked what they said about having Dawn, and Tara, and Buffy all come up to Seattle (and kick some northern vampire butt, I believe). And don't forget Anya and Drake, I like them so much. Of COURSE Anya would get a realtor license, that makes such perfect sense.
Monday, August 23rd, 2004 06:14 pm (UTC)
I didn't reply to the previous chapter because I was re-reading everything so I'd be up to date. So ...

First off, hooray that the wedding went off without grief (that's from a way back, but ...)

Still trying to care about Willow and her troubles. THANK YOU for not killing Tara, though if she had died, Willow would have had to get through Spike for her revenge.

It makes a great deal of sense to sell the house on Revello, adn Anya the Realtor makes perfect sense. I'm very glad that the pack made it out of Sunnydale, but I just bet that guilt will drag them back. I know you're trying to stay within canon, but if you do decide to use The First, can you have people be more suspicious of Buffy, to the extent of poking her to make sure it's really her? And maybe have the First channel Angel? That was my biggest disappointment with the First, because Angelus is the perfect villain.

Currently revelling in pleasure and dread. Because happiness never lasts.
