I am more touched and awed than i can say at all the lovely, lovely words of condolence and support you guys have given me. Thank you so very much. I can't reply individually, but know that it makes things much more bearable.
All sorts of relatives are going to be coming in from out of state for the wake, which is both wonderful and terrible. I wish they could have come sooner. I'm glad they're going to be here. I wish my mom didn't have to be alone every night, or get up in silence by herself.
My dad was so frustrated by being sick - so tired of feeling lousy and not being able to fly his planes or play golf or mow the yard or, hell, get up without effort. He broke down and cried a few times and he told me 'Your mom and i decided it was okay to cry sometimes.' I told him that i agreed, and we didn't have to be German all the time.
Old joke in our family - my mom's side is all German and very stoic, very non-emotional and un-messy. My dad's family is Portuguese. Very messy. :) So i've had my 'Portuguese' moments, but mostly i'm being German.
I'm also around here, because i need something to distract myself, and i can only clean the house so much, so...you've been seeing me comment, and i'm gonna be doing it more, and i've got bookmarks from hell to go through, so...
