Oookay... Too many eps to go one by one. We just watched...Salvage. I think. Spoilers for season four following right here!!

Okay, whatever was in Cordy was just born and i gotta tell ya - watching the i.q. of all the characters drop and drop has been - so fucking annoying! Jayzus! There were so many times when they could have said 'wait, Cordelia is acting weird!' or whatever. Lame.

And, let's see...Gwen! She's too cool. I like her. Pity she never gets to come back and hang with Gunn! Okay, maybe she does but - i doubt it.

And Lilah! Cracking in the end and almost admiting she loved Wes - and Wes doing the same! I'm still in lurve with Connor but - even a sex-addled 18 year old isn't *that* stupid!

And why oh why, when Angelus is being a smarmy, potty-mouthed 'evol' guy *and he always makes me roll my eyes, he's so whiney and goofy* does everybody get all jacked up? He's deliberately saying things to make them twitch and instead of being smart and ignoring it or saying something actually *witty* back - or, fuck, keeping him tranked... Wes and Gunn have a fistfight. Please. *Lame*!!

Hrmmm...what else... Oh! Yes. Angel being all 'i can't make up for what Angelus did...' Uh, no, you can't, and you don't actually have to, since *you* didn't actually do it! Sheesh. So tired of that spiel.

Gunn, stop being defective and buck up. You're not stupid, but the way you're acting, you might as well have nothing but muscle between your ears. Wes, you look scrumptious all tortured and scruffy but for fuck's sake, man - deal and move on! Fred - you can't have it both ways. You can't want Gunn, *and* Wes, *and* be jealous of Gwen, *and* be pissed at Gunn *and* be pissed at Wes for Lilah.

Lilah...you tasty little monster, you. :)

Connor! Stop thinking with your dick. Jayzus. Didn't Cordy *smell* funny or *anything*??

Lorne - stay green! We love ya, babe.

Cordelia - good gods. Stupid Big Bad Evol, to the nth degree. *sigh*

*kicks ME a lot*

I also wanted to do the Shakespeare meme. Seen everywhere. My favorite play has always been Romeo and Juliet - i read it dozens of times in seventh grade and dreamed up different endings whereby Mercutio lived and so did the young, dumb couple. Heh.
Mercutio was always my favorite, and despite the tragedy of it all, the humor of this play is my favorite part. So here follows a bit of snark between Romeo and Mercutio, and then Mercutio and the Nurse.

ROMEO
Thou wast never with me for any thing when thou wast
not there for the goose.

MERCUTIO
I will bite thee by the ear for that jest.

ROMEO
Nay, good goose, bite not.

MERCUTIO
Thy wit is a very bitter sweeting; it is a most
sharp sauce.

ROMEO
And is it not well served in to a sweet goose?

MERCUTIO
O here's a wit of cheveril, that stretches from an
inch narrow to an ell broad!

ROMEO
I stretch it out for that word 'broad;' which added
to the goose, proves thee far and wide a broad goose.

MERCUTIO
Why, is not this better now than groaning for love?
now art thou sociable, now art thou Romeo; now art
thou what thou art, by art as well as by nature:
for this drivelling love is like a great natural,
that runs lolling up and down to hide his bauble in a hole.

ROMEO
Here's goodly gear!

Enter Nurse and PETER

MERCUTIO
A sail, a sail!

BENVOLIO
Two, two; a shirt and a smock.

Nurse
Peter!

PETER
Anon!

Nurse
My fan, Peter.

MERCUTIO
Good Peter, to hide her face; for her fan's the
fairer face.

Nurse
God ye good morrow, gentlemen.

MERCUTIO
God ye good den, fair gentlewoman.

Nurse
Is it good den?

MERCUTIO
'Tis no less, I tell you, for the bawdy hand of the
dial is now upon the prick of noon.

Nurse
Out upon you! what a man are you!

ROMEO
One, gentlewoman, that God hath made for himself to
mar.

Nurse
By my troth, it is well said; 'for himself to mar,'
quoth a'? Gentlemen, can any of you tell me where I
may find the young Romeo?

ROMEO
I can tell you; but young Romeo will be older when
you have found him than he was when you sought him:
I am the youngest of that name, for fault of a worse.

Nurse
You say well.

MERCUTIO
Yea, is the worst well? very well took, i' faith;
wisely, wisely.

Nurse
if you be he, sir, I desire some confidence with
you.

BENVOLIO
She will indite him to some supper.

MERCUTIO
A bawd, a bawd, a bawd! so ho!

ROMEO
What hast thou found?

MERCUTIO
No hare, sir; unless a hare, sir, in a lenten pie,
that is something stale and hoar ere it be spent.

Sings

An old hare hoar,
And an old hare hoar,
Is very good meat in lent
But a hare that is hoar
Is too much for a score,
When it hoars ere it be spent.
Romeo, will you come to your father's? we'll
to dinner, thither.

Maybe it's seeing those scenes live, but it's wonderful, funny, and the slasy *!* energy between Romeo and Mercutio is lovely.

ETA: For those of you who'd love to read a twist on this tale, try Tanith Lee's 'Sung in Shadow'. A gorgeous re-telling with many twists and slashy overtones.

The plot in Angel season 4 made little sense to me - it was like, they'd decided on a few confrontations they wanted to see, and tormented and sacrificed the plot and the characters to produce them.

God I absolutely *adore* Mercutio!

He's the one thing that keeps me from hating that play. Because I'm not a fan of tragedy...

Well, him and the nurse... ;-)

Good good choice. I'm a sucker for everything Shakespeare anyway - but I'm with you as I do so love Mercutio. The bit I really adore in Romeo and Juliet is the exchange between Tybalt and Mercutio - full of snarkage and (to my 12 year old mind firmly ensconced in the gutter) dirty suggestions.

TYBALT
Follow me close, for I will speak to them.
Gentlemen, good den; a word with one of you.

MERCUTIO
And but one word with one of us? couple it with something; make it a word and a blow.

TYBALT
You shall find me apt enough to that, sir, ans you will give me occasion.

For me, this makes his oncoming death even more sad.

The only thing I've read by Tanith Lee, and that was ages ago, was Silver Metal Lover which I loved and loved and loved and even wrote a fan letter about.

*sigh* I'll have to find a copy and read it again sometime. Maybe it's time to read another book by her. :-)

This is the sequel to Silver Metal Lover: Metallic Love. And yes, it's the middle story of a planned trilogy.

Tanith Leeeeeeee!!!!!! I haven't thought about her in years. I absolutely adored her book Black Unicorn. I haven't read anything else. I've got a new mission for the library.

shakespeare does it for me. mercutio gave me major trembles as a kid; i used to do a lot of amdram (daaaah-liiiing) luckily a merciless director hauled the best out of the class by refusing to do 'annie' and 'oliver!' and all the ghastly kid's stuff. oh no, not when you can stage 'kiss of the spider woman' and 'a clockwork orange' with a cast of fourteen year olds. when we did 'romeo and juliet' he subtexted a sex-y if not downright sexual relationship between Lady Capulet and Tybalt which puts a new spin on her rage when romeo kills him.
my utter favorite is still puck from 'a midsummer night's dream' though. *drools slightly* *wipes chin*

I agree with everything you said except for the Gwen stuff. I couldn't stand her. Ick! She was extremely annoying and woe-is-me, and it's like--whatever, babe. You're rich and skanky, now. Get over it.
