Also - something a little odd for me, but hey! I voted, hope you will too. It's this:

Though you may not watch One Life To Live, a major character has been revealed to have a same-sex lover.
An online poll is asking viewers to express their opinion to help ABC determine if this is acceptable or not (for revenue dollars of course).

Right now it needs your help.
Please vote below and pass this on to at least 10 gay friendly folks.

Let's finally open the soaps to a permanent gay character!

Vote Here

As of my voting, the 'yay, a gay guy!' votes were about 12 percentage points ahead of the 'ooh, how awful!' votes.

ETA: Do us all a favor and pass this around!

~~I also tripped on a weed. Underwater. How embarassing is that??~~
If I laugh any harder at that, I might well die! *collapses into a pile of hysterical giggles*

You're the one who posted the link, so it's in the RIGHT place.

Thanks for the tip about the poll -- I know and care nothing about soaps, but I'll weigh in wherever possible on things like this!

ABC was the network that accepted advertising from Focus on the Family (James Dobson's organization) but refused gay-friendly advertising from the United Church of Christ. Just in case you didn't already know.

Yeah, I feel somewhat personally invested in that issue since my mom is a member of a UCC congregation. She sent us a clip of the "banned" advertisement. The ad was of a church with "bouncers" turning away people, including what was obviously a gay couple (and people of different colors, etc.). The UCC wanted to make the point that they don't turn anyone away. ABC refused to air this on the grounds that they don't air advertising from any religious organization. The other two networks also refused to air it too; one of them said it was because the gay couple made it too controversial.

Anyway, it was particularly galling that several weeks later ABC accepted advertising from Focus on the Family, whose web site CLEARLY states is a religious organization. My family and friends have sent letters of protest to ABC and the FCC about this issue.

Sorry to go off about this, but it burns me up. (/rant)
