Already everywhere? I don't care. This woman has amazing courage, and I hope more of her colleagues stand up with her.

ETA: Ms. Thompson can be contacted here.
Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] alice23kate for the link!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's nice to know someone has the guts to speak the truth about the farce that is the anti-gay marriage(among other things) movement.

Please let people know they can contact Representative Thompson at the link below. You can send her an email an express your support. I'm a Houstonian, and I've been so down about a lot of things in politics, and the things the LEG has been doing lately has been just cringeworthy. When I think of the families they've destroyed and the children they've forced to linger in foster homes to *protect* them from the gay plague, well, if I weren't a broke old maid public school librarian, I'd leave this state for good. Please urge people to contact her at the link below. She needs to know that many people support her. Thank you.

She put forth every point that I've always thought--you can't talk about civil rights and not include gay folks, every oppressed peoples stories are the same. We need to get past the color of skin and what religion you follow and who you love and get down to basics--we're all in this together.

You're damn right. She's from Houston. Right where I live! Yep. :proud:

Thanks for this. I have never heard it put any better. The link to Catelin's piece called "Fag" is awesome also. Damn I hate that word. There is something so ugly about teaching children to hate. I just want to cry over where this country is heading. Thanks again for leading us all here.

Thank you for posting that. It makes me so glad when people stand up like that. I can't tell you how many times a day I get asked why I'm so obsessive about gay rights, like it's some annoying personality defect.

Some of you folks hid behind your Bible then, too, to justify your
cultural prejudices, your denial of liberty, and your gunpoint robbery
of human dignity.

I think that was my favorite point. It seems like you can't tell where government starts and religion ends anymore. And here I thought they were supposed to be separate. Thanks again.
