Haven't done this in a while, and thought i just might.

First up is a WIP from [livejournal.com profile] nasty_shrew called Dead Sunflowers. A post-Glory S/X story that starts with Xander in a mental ward and then gallops apace! Very cool Xander-voice and you get Spike, Tara, and Dawn, too! Go, read!

Then, there's [livejournal.com profile] kyrieane's Dandelion Wine which is just lyrical and dreamy and strange and lovely. Another WIP but a must-read.

Also a must-read, [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat's Indelibe, which didn't have a name for a while, so it's under 'American Strangers' in my memories. *The first story in this series was called that.* Post-everything, Xander/Dawn in an utterly lovely and convincing way, plus Oz and a major, skeery, and nail-biting twist on the whole 'Key' issue. Oh, yes, must read!!

Last but not least, because i love more than just BtVS and it never hurts to broaden your horizons, Na Goshi is an incredible and sexy and sad and scary and so, so beautiful LOTR/rps-sorta story by [livejournal.com profile] abundantlyqueer. We have demons and gods and a Buddha and all manner of strange and lovely things. You'll love it - really. Not so much rps as 'i want this character to have this very pretty face'. So don't let that squick you.

On a more personal, whiny level - the signal to noise ration in my inbox *stuff i wanna read versus spam* has increased DRAMATICALLY in the last week. It's gotten utterly insane. As an example - if i normally got 50 emails in the morning, 20 would be 'inbox' and 30 would be 'trash'. Now it's more like 5/45. And so MANY are Korean and Japanese - can't read 'em, have NO clue. Pretty girl, weird cartoon guy, lots of exclamation points, the number 20%... WHAT are they trying to sell me? Pr0n? A new car? A mortgage? I'm confused. *sigh*

Enjoy the recs! Try something new! You never know until you ... you get the picture.

No! Not new stuff! Won't leave comfort zone, won't!

Which is why I've been re-reading "Changes" from very beginning to very end. Weeping in restaurants gets you stared at, I'll have you know.

I couldn't survive email without my Yahoo bulk mail folder and the filters. Why the Christian Loan Advisors want my business I have no idea.

Just feel into the clutches of Dead Sunflowers. It's your fault.

Great recs!
I just read Dead Sunflowers and I'm already in love with it!
Na Goshi is very different from what I'm used to reading, but I like it. It's very intriguing and if I can get past the rpg thing, I'll read it entirely.

I'll follow some of the fic recs later on when I'm home again - we're goign to be out for stuff in the city today - and I hope a peek in at the Dr's office to see if the kid needs antibiotics - her cough keeps getting worse! :-(

Go take a look at Knowspam.net They'll give you a free trial of a month, I think. And after a month, I was convinced. I've been using them for two years now, due to the asian spam. I still have a lot of it show up, if I check at knowspam. But I don't have to deal with it. :-) Real people who write to me, without me writing to them first, get a message that I wrote saying basically "proove you're a human" and once they do, I get the email. I find the whole thing highly worth the money for not having to wade through all the garbage!

Glad to see the rec for Dead Sunflowers. Just linked to that one and getting set to read it. *bounce*

Ditto on the spam front. Not sure what the deal is. Seriously considering closing down one of my accounts just because of the number I get. What's up with that?

LOL! I got a lot of Taiwanese email for about 6 months and they were mostly trying to sell me gemstones and sparkly jewellery. I don't have a clue how I got onto that mailing list!

Maybe i need to make my email in my userinfo a at dot com kind of thing?

As long as you have the box checked next to "Mangle your displayed e-mail address" when you go to Manage>Info, then it can't be grabbed except manually. :o)

You can see the images in the spam posts when you open them? If you turn that off, you'll get less spam in the long run.

Spammers use image tags to see which email addresses have people actually opening the posts. They are little, usually invisible images (even a spam that looks all-text might have one if the message is in html) that have unique names. So when you open the email, it calls to the server for that image, and bam, the spammers know that yours is a real address with a person behind it. That makes your email address more valuable for them to sell to other people, and you get more spam.

Thanks for the recs--I'm off to read!

I didn't need more stories to read...
But I really liked both dead sunflowers and dandelion wine so thank you for pointing them out to me! :)
