*waves*

Hallo! I am sitting here, windows open, ac *off*, enjoying the hell out of our suddenly mild and lovely temperatures. Forties at night!! Seventies in the day!! So very wonderful. Cannot *wait* for true autumn to arrive.

I have been poking around at fic but not really *writing*, which is annoying, so i signed up for a couple things. Firstly, the [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. It's a challenge where artists provide art, and writers pick the art that inspires them and write a story around it. I got a neat prompt last year that resulted in a Missouri Mosely-centric fic that i really enjoyed writing, so i'm looking forward to it this year!

Secondly, and totally on a whim, I joined the [livejournal.com profile] 50states_spn challenge. I got Missouri, so i'll be writing something showcasing some Missouri 'stuff' - food, places, ghosties, ghoulies.... Should be a blast! Go check it out - you might be inspired! Minimum word count is only 1k, and stories aren't due until December.

Let's see...what else? Oh! I've been reading and following an online comic - it's *very* adult, very slashy, and the artist is awesome. Check it out here: Starfighter. Sex and intrigue in spaaaaace! What could be better?

I recently watched the last season of Ugly Betty - really enjoyed it! But, i'm confused. Spoilers ahead! Before i sat and just watched all the eps, i was seeing random episodes on tv during the day. And in one episode Justin was doing 'West Side Story' and Hildy was there, and it shows Bobby walking into a convenience store somewhere and getting *shot* and killed. And then - we see Hildy sort of imagining him alive, talking to him about wedding plans and stuff and at the end, she's in her room alone and Betty comes in and Hildy cries and admits he's dead. So, um......wtf? Season four - spoilers again!! - ended with them married, Betty off in London, and them moving to a new house. So - please - if you ever watched it? Halp!!

Lastly - did anyone watch 'Falling Skies'? I freakin' *loved it*. Aliens, apocalypse - could a couple of my buttons be pushed any harder? BUT!

WHERE ARE THE SHOW/FS XOVERS!! I mean - come *on*! Have to be *some* out there! *huge, hopeful eyes*

So, there. Random post is random, and i just wanted to say 'hi' and that i'm doing pretty good, post-surgery. Nice to feel human, to shower whenever i want, to *bend down* when i want without pain or 'incident'. Wheeee!

Hope none of my Texas peeps are in the paths of the fires - please, be safe! Hopefully with autumn on the way, you'll get some damn rain!

Oh, and! Bebe did her first color guard performance at the first home game the second of September - wheeee! They did great, looked great, and she said she wasn't nervous at all. Yay! So glad the field is right across the street. :)

*luffs you all*

Congrats to Bebe! I knew folks who did Color Guard and wow, that's hard work.

I'm so very glad you're doing better! I can't wait for fall to really show up here. At least the nights are cooler and we've been getting fog!

Can't help you with the crossovers. I will check out the comic though.

Good to hear you're feeling good. Haven't got a chance to watch Falling Skies, but it sounds so good. It's been on my to-watch list.

Thanks for the link to the comic!

yay for the Bebe! and for your health!
and I agree totally on the weather thing- I am doing exactly the same right now!

Falling skies is on my to-watch- looks like TNT has a couple eps up, and I checked it out the other day. I'm so happy that TV and movie SF has finally caught all the way up to the '70's- I was awfully bored with the 50's and 60's. ^___^

(now if I could just figure out which New Wave novella Serenity's was lifted frombased on, I would be perfectly happy. I remember it clearly, so many scenes were exactly the same, but i just can't find anything concrete in my trashbin of a head!)

YAY, color guard! There is nothing better than marching band for sheer fun. *_*

And yay for the convenient location so mom can come applaud!

Hi back. It's good to see you posting, and hear positive things. More of that for you, please, universe.

What great news that you're feeling better! And congrats to Bebe on the color guard performance!

I do like Starfighter but haven't stopped by the site in a long time as it seemed there weren't any updates in months. I'll have to check it out again!

I was in the rifle corp in high school. We had a long-standing thing with the color guard (called flag corp in my school). I have no idea what the thing was, as it was long standing and was in place before I got to high school, but there you go.

Good job Bebe!!

Fires are south of me. I have employees and people who provide services to the people we provide services to (I promise that does make sense) who are at risk or who have been evacuated. So far, things are ok. One of my coworkers went out of town for the weekend and couldn't get back to her house because the fires blocked all the roads back in. Her house was ok, she just couldn't get to it. We're keeping an eye on things.

Glad you're feeling better! *smootches*

Edited to remove random letters from words. Sorry!

Hooray for bending and cooler temperatures and feeling better. And the thought of the Bebe in color guard just makes me smile (and makes me want to write a story about a young girl in CG in the 70s and hiding a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook under her bed. Purely fictional, of course).

Ha, I hear you about enjoying the change in weather! Glad you're doing ok and will be looking forward to your fics, those are great challenges to have signed up for.

Sorry! That was just a throwaway comment on something that's bugged me ever since I saw the movie, because I can't remember where I read it. Mentioned it only because you've read so much relatively obscure sf yourself. ;)
I read a *lot* of that 70's New Wave sf in a very indiscriminate and piggish fashion. The Reavers' origin scenes on Miranda rang a giant clanging bell for me, to the point I could have told you what they were going to see or say next. Turns out it was a memorable concept, but the story itself? not so much. I know it was a a long short or short novella in a collection or anthology with some other dystopian futures, but I've never been able to narrow it down any further than that. since there was no attribution of any kind I'm kind of guessing Whedon read it too, and then internalized and forgot it.
Just one of those annoying itch things- -I'll figure it out someday. Or not. :/

Inorite? I'm sure I wasn't the only person to read it, but I've never heard any one else mention it either. My brother doesn't even remember it, which tells me it was one of the weirder ones he didn't have time for.
I loved DV- apparently they've finally given up on TLDV- an R.A. Lafferty story Ellison bought from the widow for it went back to her a while back, according to some guy who did his thesis on Lafferty. A thesis. on Lafferty. Who'd a thunk it? It only took 50 odd years for people to notice he wasn't just crazy, but kind of a genius too, lol!

Hooray to feeling so much better and Bebe's stellar performance!

I'm looking forward to your SPN Missouri fic. We have to spend an inordinate amount of time driving to Missouri and in Missouri (aging in-laws) and maybe you can spark my interest in the state again. The drive and the visiting are such a grind, it's hard to stay interested in the sights. I bet Dean will relish in all the red, red meat that is in everything! Fried things would also appeal to his discriminating palate.

Three trips a year to Kansas City and my brother lives in Warrensburg (about 45 minutes east of Kansas City). We've been to Columbia and Saint Louis a couple times each, but most of the "vacation" is spent around one kitchen table or another.

"Slice of Pie" store? Sounds intriguing! We always pick up BBQ at Oklahoma Joe's, but that's just over the state line in Kansas! We also drink a lot of Boulevard Beer.

We've been to small towns, too. The rural areas are beautiful and we love weird museums and sights. We've camped in the southeast and toured the Black Madonna Shrine and Grottoes in Pacific. California, Nevada, Sedalia and Peculiar have all gotten a look see. The mister's family are from the northeast part of the state, so we've stopped at small towns up there. We've camped at Roaring Rivers and Elephant Rock.

Fave Places: Lelia's Hair Museum in Independence and the surprisingly homey Truman Home there, too. The Capitol building is fantastic and the town of Jefferson City is charming. Meremec Caverns outside Saint Louis was gorgeous and we hung with the owners as they blithely fed potato chips to the over abundant (and really creepy) raccoon population outside the motel office.

Twenty plus years of road trips, you see a lot of a state!

So glad you're feeling a bit better.
My magazine arrived yesterday - thanks for that!
Shells will be on their way soon.
