Hiya. I'm using my brand-new and very happy!making beeeeee! icon, because the news around the world and at home is kinda on the 'bad' side. Bleh. But there's still good stuff out there, so i'm posting what i consider 'good stuff' first.
(Original beeeee! art by [livejournal.com profile] cafe_de_labeill, icon by [livejournal.com profile] realproof) Thanks, guys! :)

[livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction is over, and thank you, bidders! Numbers are still being tallied, but a lot was made, which is awesome.

In Egypt, the internet and a lot of other services have been shut down by the government, but you can still get live and up-to-the-minute news from Al Jazeera. This is the English live stream. Also, apparently, Tunisia's revolution has sparked more - not only Egypt, but protests and unrest has been reported in Libya, Algeria, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon and Albania, as well. We can only hope that violence stays to a minimum and the citizens in all these countries achieve some if not all of their goals.
*this link has a lot of information about what's going on in Tunisia, Egypt, and elsewhere*

Cat set up a Tor relay on his computer, which helps those who *can* get online to anonymize their access. Hopefully, it will help keep the information flowing.

This gentleman is also posting on his Facebook, pretty recent stuff and links.

And from Tunisia - a wonderful image of peace. Let's hope that this scene can be repeated everywhere there is upheaval and chaos.

Now - the stuff that's kinda bad. Egypt's internet got 'switched off'. Guess what? Senator Lieberman and others want an 'off' switch for our internet, too. Nice!

But worst of all - the motherfucking GOP has decided, as part of their on-going war against women, to redefine rape in an effort to block even more instances when a woman might obtain an abortion. Among others, including some instances of incest, what isn't covered under this new bill includes "...rapes in which the woman was drugged or given excessive amounts of alcohol, rapes of women with limited mental capacity, and many date rapes." They're so fucking freaked out by the idea of the government (Medicaid) paying for abortions that they're basically saying if you weren't attacked and beaten and your life threatened, too fucking bad. ARRG.

My government kinda sucks. AND. No new Show tonight! Stupid CW.
*clings to fandom*

Oh, and, guess what? Because of [livejournal.com profile] _beetle_ and [livejournal.com profile] darkhavens, i have a new fucking fandom. I'm reading Inception fic. Dear gods. Funny, because i thought the move absolutely sucked balls.

Oh and! I wrote a little comment fic at a very interesting comment meme - it's here. Spoilers for 6:09. I like the idea behind the meme - go see if you do, too! :)

Let's have a good weekend, people - and let's be careful out there.

ETA: I have made two requests at round three of this Iconfest - the bee is one of them! This comm *rocks* - i encourage you to read the rules and go make a request!

I's innocent, I tells ya! *gleefully adds your name to the list of the incepted* ;)

Oooooh! There's nothing quite like some [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui faerie fic! Birdbones whistling and Dean with a pocket of keepaway dust. Delicious and creepy and very very moarish. :D

I've been reading about the ongoing struggle to reduce women's rights. It's like taking a horrible time machine trip backwards.

The "No Tax-payer Funding for Abortion Act" is horrifying. It targets the poor and vulnerable. Yes, our government does suck. I think I'll pour myself a beer and read some fluffy fan fiction, preferably with pretty boys kissing.

I haven't seen inception simply because so many people thought it sucked. I am reading White Collar fanfic, though. *grins*

Sorry about all the suckage. And if my daughter met any of those criteria listed and turned up pregnant, you'd better believe I'd take care of it. Women should not be forced to have a child as the result of rape, nor should they be forced to have a child if it puts their own health at risk.

Love lawmakers thinking they have a right to tell me what to do with my body and my daughter's.

I tried to do a Death icon for you, but his pale horse resisted me and I gave up. I'll blame it on the three day migraine and try again at a later date.

I've been saying for a while that the right wing wants to take away the right of women and girls to say no. This is just proof I'm not being crazy. Lieberman needs a swift kick in the backside.

I've been checking in with Al Jazeera's site throughout the day.

*hugs* Hi! I love the happy bee! Next Friday is show!! Also, Cat rocks for setting up that relay.

I saw the GOP reaction to the internet switch off in Egypt and was incoherent with fury. I had NOT seen the redefinition of rape, which has done it again.

Thank you for this incredibly informative post.

WELCOME TO THE DARKSIDE!

Inception will eat your sooooouuuullllll. . . .

The GOP's shenanigans are getting ridiculous. It's like they've collectively lost their effing minds. And the Revolution Solution ain't goin' so well in Libya, unfortunately. Between the uprisings, revolutions, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and governmental insanity, it's like the whole world is kinda going to Hell. At a faster rate than usual :-/
