In celebration of the REPEAL OF DADT!!

I give you this. It's an ad for Canon towels that appeared during WW2, basically beseeching the public to use old towels and not demand new ones since the new ones were all going overseas to the troops.

And frankly, nothing inspires you to use your old towels over and over like a dozen naked Army guys cavorting in a tropical bay.

ETA: Apparently, this ad ran in Life magazine, and there were *several*. And omg, they are awesome!!.

In other fun news - Cat made an airbrushed t-shirt for the Bebe to give to Gerard at the concert on Tuesday. And he got it! And Ray Toro tweeted pictures of it on! Wheeeeeee!

Skull and spider....

All in all? Today is a good day. :)

ETA2: For the love of all that's holy, where are the Death icons? Where? Where??
*neeeeeeeeeeds*

About time. The ad is hilarious -- where on earth did it appear, I wonder?

*cannot speak for laughing*
gotta know- what magazine published that?
and umm- I doubt their veracity a little; I surveyed those pacific islands, excavated White Beach I, but somehow I don't remember any crocodiles- though there were sharks galore- I can't see them being dterred by the volleyball net, lol !

the shirt is incredible, though-

Merry Christmas, Happy all hols!

Woo-hoo, Cat!!!! Coolness! :)

Those towel ads...what the hell happened to this country that everything is sexualized now? Those ads were pretty innocent back then, and now to our eyes they look like a big old orgy about to kick off. I'm not sure what to think about that! Well, I do like the top one, I'm not blind. A nice ass is a nice ass, no matter what--ha! Also I notice everyone has very broad shoulders and big ribcages, a different body type that what's hot today. You know, where guys mostly look like girls without tits or hips.

Gee, I sound like an old fart, don't I? kind of rambly and cane-wavy.

I can't decide whether to write slash about those pictures or make snarky remarks about DADT and the girls left on the homefront.

However, congratulations America on taking another step into joining the ranks of the logical on the topic of homosexuality. I mean that sincerely. Now if you can just start toddling towards gay marriage without completely relapsing we'll know that you're really getting somewhere:-)

What a great ad! That gave me a big smile. I'm sure it lifted a few wartime spirits...

Very good news about DADT! Nice to have some of that sort of news for a change. Hurray!

And a fabulous shirt too. Lots of happiness in this post.

These are all kinds of fabulous. Gosh. Ads today just aren't quite as convincing, are they? :P
Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 03:12 am (UTC)
Holy crap!
Did the people who made these really not see the homo-erotica here?
Wow!
Wish I'd joined the army.

THAT SHIRT IS MADE OF ROCKITUDE!

It'd make a hell of a tattoo.

And those Life magazine ads . . . whoever made those must've done so as an in joke, just like all the weird gay subtext in the old He-Man cartoons.

DADT . . . rest in pieces.
