Well, not *too* pointless, heh.
This past Monday, my Mom had her left knee replaced. She had the right one done about six years ago, and the last couple years has had a *lot* of pain from her degenerating left knee. So it was about time!
On Friday i went down to where she lives to help her get home and such, but she wasn't feeling well enough to leave the hospital, and ended up not coming home until Saturday. She's doing very well, actually - stiff and sore from lying in bed for so long, and her foot is a bit swollen, but when i left Sunday she was pretty chipper.
Now she just has to endure being 'nursed' by my two brothers. Eeep! Boys are just not very good nurses.
My almost-sis-in-law also graduated from college on Friday, with a degree in Mathmatics - major - and a minor in Art. AND, my nephew graduated from High School, and is going to college in the fall. Yay! Both of them worked hard and graduated with honors, and i'm so proud of them!
Lastly - the delightful and talented
catsbycat made art for me! Two separate gifts of art for my 'South China Sea' Vietnam AU. They're lovely and amazing and i hope everyone who liked the fic will go and see them!
Rare downtime, featuring both boys, and JT and Sarge. Scroll a bit for those two, they're at the end.
Enjoy!

"Now she just has to endure being 'nursed' by my two brothers. Eeep! Boys are just not very good nurses."
Eeep indeed! I watched my own brother "nursing" my poor mom-
Maybe you should remind them that scrubbing bubbles are not only just fictional characters, but their characterization on TV shows deliberately exaggerated enthusiasm? And that they probably don't need to be that hyped up?:P
PS. I'll get back to reading fic soon- I have your fairy tale open in a window even now!

Yis, boys just don't *notice* things! Silly boys.
Yay, fic! I hope you enjoy. :)

They are just not quite as....*attentive*, heh.

Loved the art! And as a handy side-effect, linkage to another of your J2 AU's to read and glomp. *g*

And yes, that's it exactly - not really *observy*. Heh.
Oooh, you hadn't read? I hope you enjoy!

And I'm intrigued to read about your mom getting a second knee replacement. We've been trying to get my dad to have one for years but he is so reluctant. Can I ask how successful it's been? And I hope she recovers quickly from this second op - even with boys as nurses :)

As for knees...my mom's first one - and this one, too - was because the cartilage in her knee was gone. Basically, she had bone on bone, which as you can imagine was *very* painful. It made it hard for her to walk around, even to do stuff like shop for groceries, so when she got the first one done, it was a relief.
She really had very little pain, and was up and on her feet within the first couple days. She had physical therapy at home and used a walker for about three weeks, i think, and then she was fine. It only bothered her if she sat around all day and didn't *do* anything, but she didn't have lasting pain of any kind.
She was *so* relieved to be getting the second one done. She's put it off because my dad was sick, and then my dad died and she just kind of...didn't care. But now she's glad she did it, because even walking out to the mailbox hurt her, and she just couldn't do *anything* she wanted to do. Again - no real pain, and she's at home and doing fine, exercising and such.
Your dad really needs to just go for it. He'll be so relieved to have the pain gone, and his mobility back. If he's in not-bad health otherwise, it'll make a huge, positive difference in his life. Really!

And CONGRATULATIONS to your almost-sis-in-law and nephew!! Those are big achievements. I'm especially impressed with the degree in math/art. What path will she be taking now?
no subject
And yes - she's looking forward to doing things again that she pretty much quit doing because of pain.
I *think* she wants to teach, but i'm not sure. She likes art more than math and is insanely talented, but her math skills are amazing, too. She was combining the two at the end, there, and even was offered to teach a course that linked math and art, so perhaps she'll go that route, it's hard to say. Right now, after five years, she's mostly just sleeping in and *living*, heh.

how's you? x

Yes. Out of sheer self-preservation. :)
I'm good! Monstrous is tall! Cat is getting a little belly! Heeee.
We have a new kitten, i must post about him.....
How are *you*, little Miss I-don't-get-online-anymore?
*smooch*

I am good thanks, still a flake where it comes to any kind of consistency lol. Am certainly back for a bit. Recently exited my job and am in a pleasant enough limbo state for the time being...the arts are calling me, though currently it involves laying around reading :)
My regards to the rest of your lovely family! xxx

Dunno about what I'm going back into next. Not the same or even similar perhaps. Right now I'm having a break to think, or will be thinking inbetween fic reading marathons...my inital thoughts though suggest I want actual no-thinking-required menial work that gives me brainspace to be differently creative. Or something. Basically, responsibility = DNW >:[
Show us the kitteh!!!

Yis, responsibility sucks.

Is she planning on teaching? Engineering? If so, she could probably write her own ticket.
Glad your mom's doing better, despite the man-nursing, lmao. She probably got better faster just to see the tail end of them. Guys really do make the worst nurses, sometimes.
And the fan art!!!!!
I especially loved Jensen as Captain America! CA was one of my favorite marvel heroes. I loved that he threw his shield--his America-shield--like a frisbee and totally kicked ass with it.
Oh, but the Sam-as-Lucifer, game me a shiver, and the SCS ones were so realistic and cool! How the hell? I got forced to use that program nearly daily for three years straight, and my efforts were never nearly that good. Amazing.
Now I totally wanna see a Captain America movie. I heard there was gonna be a remake. Personally, I really liked the one with Matt Salinger, but I can't wait to see what they do with the story.

I think she's going to go into teaching, not really sure. Right now she's just happy to be not in school, heh.
Yes, fan art! FTW!!! I love that someone got so inspired that they did that for me. So awesome.
*i would love love love to see Jensen as Cap'n America. He could *so* play that role*

I hope your mom is better now. Recovering from surgery such as this one can take some time. I hope it's not too painful!

It's easy to miss posts, though.
But thank you! She's doing really good - not much pain, got most of her mobility back and is feeling much better now that she doesn't have to deal with a knee that's basically grinding itself to dust inside her leg.

They had this awesome interactive learning thing at the Bebe's school a couple years ago that took you step by step through a hip replacement. Showed how it was done and had this poseable rendered figure with all the muscles and stuff illustrated.
It was very cool. It makes me a little twitchy, to think about, but i'm glad my mom's not in pain any more.
