Hallo, flist! Thought i'd rec a few things, and just generally say 'hallo'. My [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter fic is halfway done and it's...a little darker than i thought. Ah well! Happy ending, i promise. My other, not!j2_everafter fic is *done* and has been done and i want to post *so bad*!!

Only 20 more days.... :)

Tonight, [livejournal.com profile] darkhavens and i discovered something dreadful. Bartleby - the place you go for quotes - uses the *bowdlerized* version of Romeo and Juliet! Et-fucking-cetera!!! We are crushed.

In happier news - recs! Firstly, [livejournal.com profile] reremouse has posted a lovely bit of Mouse!Spander, which is a fine and vintage Spander, and something you shouldn't miss. Last Dog Watch Off Miami.

Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] roxymissrose is writing a wonderful, angsty and gorgeous Supernatural fic, full of the heat and madness of a long summer. Lodi is an excellent read. WIP, but nearly done, and she posts fast. :)

Thirdly, we have [livejournal.com profile] toldthestars and her utterly out-there fic, The Death and Resurrection of Dean Winchester. Part 1 and part 2. Final part up soon! It's AU, it's freaky, and you'll love it. Or hate it. Heeeeee.

And now - three things that people wrote for me, which is a wonderful part of fandom, and something that never fails to make me giddy.

[livejournal.com profile] witling wrote a snippet of Angel, Spike and Connor. Ooh, so delightful. They take a Crown Vic from the parking lot.... [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34 did me a spiffy little Spike drabble, and last but not least, [livejournal.com profile] estei riffed off an Alice Cooper lyric to give me this excellent bit of J2 goodness.

Wheeeee! All so wonderful! Thank you guys, so much! And, and! I sent off my Writercon payment today. Whooooooot! *does a little dance*

And - because my subject lines are usually much more prosaic - that is a quote from one of my all-time favorite books, 'The Silver Metal Lover', by Tanith Lee.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled lives. :)

ETA: Because of yet another horrifying, potential fandom faux-pas in the making, let me say this, for the record. If anyone out there *ever* takes a copy of my fic and gives it to an actor/crew-type person without asking my permission first, i will hunt you down and kill you.

That is all.

The reference Bartleby are using is the Oxford Shakespeare, so it may not only be R&J that is Bowdlerised. I fear that there is much more et ceteraing of 'unsuitable' material in that volume.

If it wouldn't make me weep tears of blood, I'd search my html Complete Works for 'et cetera', but I fear I wouldn't be able to sleep afterwards. Well, either that, or I'd be terrorized by obscenity-censoring asshats. *g*

I did the search. There are only two et ceteras: the one in R&J and another in Troilus and Cressida:

ACHILLES. To him, Patroclus. Tell him I humbly desire the valiant Ajax to invite the most valorous Hector to come unarm'd to my tent; and to procure safe conduct for his person of the magnanimous and most illustrious six-or-seven-times-honour'd Captain General of the Grecian army, et cetera, Agamemnon. Do this.

And I have no idea what could possibly have been replaced there!

But maybe we can research and you can leave edit notes in your copy so you don't have to shop for a new one?

*is still contemplating emailing Bartleby to tell them they need a new source*

OH TABAQUI!!! the SILVER METAL LOVER for ALL THE WIN IN THE WORLD!!!!

I immediately start singing one of Silver's songs to a tune I kind of garbled from Greensleeves --

a love by any other name, would get the blame
for being what it is --the color of a flame --the shadow of a kiss
so call it love, so call it love I will,
for love is like the sea and changes constantly,
but yet is still the same.

Just thinking of the last lines of that book make me tear up, as always. OH MY HEART.

People are always ask what your favorite novel is, and NOT THAT MANY PEOPLE KNOW about the Silver Metal Lover, though certainly EVERYONE SHOULD.

Remember how Clovis was totally also in love with Silver! I loved Tanith Lee's old 1970s stories where everyone was multifariously-sexual.

I even started reading Saki (HH Munro) just because of his Clovis stories, which are a hoot.

ahem. Anyways, so just chiming in with your love of the AWESOMEST BOOK EVER.

I am a HUGE Lee fan, I have like 40 of her books, but nothing ever came near Silver. Oh, sigh!! I've always longed for Jain's peacock jacket and the little flat they redecorated. Though I have, in fact, sung for coins on the street in London. :)

Did you ever read any of ladyjanelly's fic? she started a Jensenbot story and then squicked herself. But can you imagine a Jensen Metal Lover? I CAN. ;P

Here is a good Saki story:

They're best read out loud. :)

Check it out. Someone's been tinkering with her lj.

(hint: it's me!)

You know I rely on you for my continued lj training, right? I'm trying to avoid faux pas and poor interweb etiquette, but I'm still a youngin. Despite having had an lj since, like, 2001.

I learn slow.

Thanks!!!

...and I will cheerfully hold your coat. Gah! What a recipe for good-intentions-turned-to-horrible-embarrassment-for-all that could turn into!

How sad about the Bartleby's thing! That's enraging, and depressing. I hope you can find a better source for quotes. Surely there are more options on the web?

I am ashamed to say that although I've read other books by Tanith Lee, I never got around to "Silver Metal Lover." Got to rectify that. *makes a note*

Your ETA makes it sound as if there was some awful event that I'm not aware of. Uh oh.

Ooo! Lots of recs. *gives you a cookie* And yay for Writercon! *uses new Dean icon I picked up that has nothing to do with this comment, but I just felt like looking at it; I call it "Dean orgasm."

Your ETA? Scary idea, so very scary...

Apart from that, yay for the links! *g*
And I hope you'll have lots of fun at Writercon!

Lovely recs. Been a bit out of it all lately.

...and who in their right mind would offer up a fic to an actor/crew-type person? *boggles*

Oh not again. And seriously, it's not as if they aren't coming across it on their own these days, they don't need the help.

In re. your ETA: oh god, what now?

Ah, I do so love it when I manage to miss the insanity. ^_^

And my god, the man has a computer, let him find it on his own if he wants to! Organically. Heh.

Ah, le fic! You give great recs, and I shall read each and every one. Now that my brain has--mostly--stopped being hijacked.

Heh, the last fic I read was yours, "The Lad That Loves You True". You're a tough act to follow, lady.
