Hallo, flist! Thought i'd rec a few things, and just generally say 'hallo'. My
j2_everafter fic is halfway done and it's...a little darker than i thought. Ah well! Happy ending, i promise. My other, not!j2_everafter fic is *done* and has been done and i want to post *so bad*!!
Only 20 more days.... :)
Tonight,
darkhavens and i discovered something dreadful. Bartleby - the place you go for quotes - uses the *bowdlerized* version of Romeo and Juliet! Et-fucking-cetera!!! We are crushed.
In happier news - recs! Firstly,
reremouse has posted a lovely bit of Mouse!Spander, which is a fine and vintage Spander, and something you shouldn't miss. Last Dog Watch Off Miami.
Secondly,
roxymissrose is writing a wonderful, angsty and gorgeous Supernatural fic, full of the heat and madness of a long summer. Lodi is an excellent read. WIP, but nearly done, and she posts fast. :)
Thirdly, we have
toldthestars and her utterly out-there fic, The Death and Resurrection of Dean Winchester. Part 1 and part 2. Final part up soon! It's AU, it's freaky, and you'll love it. Or hate it. Heeeeee.
And now - three things that people wrote for me, which is a wonderful part of fandom, and something that never fails to make me giddy.
witling wrote a snippet of Angel, Spike and Connor. Ooh, so delightful. They take a Crown Vic from the parking lot....
lunabee34 did me a spiffy little Spike drabble, and last but not least,
estei riffed off an Alice Cooper lyric to give me this excellent bit of J2 goodness.
Wheeeee! All so wonderful! Thank you guys, so much! And, and! I sent off my Writercon payment today. Whooooooot! *does a little dance*
And - because my subject lines are usually much more prosaic - that is a quote from one of my all-time favorite books, 'The Silver Metal Lover', by Tanith Lee.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled lives. :)
ETA: Because of yet another horrifying, potential fandom faux-pas in the making, let me say this, for the record. If anyone out there *ever* takes a copy of my fic and gives it to an actor/crew-type person without asking my permission first, i will hunt you down and kill you.
That is all.

If it wouldn't make me weep tears of blood, I'd search my html Complete Works for 'et cetera', but I fear I wouldn't be able to sleep afterwards. Well, either that, or I'd be terrorized by obscenity-censoring asshats. *g*

It's so dreadful! The prudes must not be allowed to win!
Now i fear i must find an *intact* copy.

ACHILLES. To him, Patroclus. Tell him I humbly desire the valiant Ajax to invite the most valorous Hector to come unarm'd to my tent; and to procure safe conduct for his person of the magnanimous and most illustrious six-or-seven-times-honour'd Captain General of the Grecian army, et cetera, Agamemnon. Do this.
And I have no idea what could possibly have been replaced there!
But maybe we can research and you can leave edit notes in your copy so you don't have to shop for a new one?
*is still contemplating emailing Bartleby to tell them they need a new source*
no subject
*Maybe*.
I luff my old copy. If that's the only edit they did, it's cool, and i'll amend. But yeah - if there's more then i want to have a 'correct' copy on hand. There are other 'bawdy' asides in that play! I guess that one was too explicit? Who knows!!
An email would be *so good*. I'll sign off on it with you, if you like! It's just insane that they don't have the original words in there!!

I immediately start singing one of Silver's songs to a tune I kind of garbled from Greensleeves --
a love by any other name, would get the blame
for being what it is --the color of a flame --the shadow of a kiss
so call it love, so call it love I will,
for love is like the sea and changes constantly,
but yet is still the same.
Just thinking of the last lines of that book make me tear up, as always. OH MY HEART.
People are always ask what your favorite novel is, and NOT THAT MANY PEOPLE KNOW about the Silver Metal Lover, though certainly EVERYONE SHOULD.
Remember how Clovis was totally also in love with Silver! I loved Tanith Lee's old 1970s stories where everyone was multifariously-sexual.
I even started reading Saki (HH Munro) just because of his Clovis stories, which are a hoot.
ahem. Anyways, so just chiming in with your love of the AWESOMEST BOOK EVER.

Oh, yes, yes yes! I just adore that book, so damn much. It's made me cry *every time* i've read it.
And what are these 'Saki' stories you speak of? I must know! I love Clovis, so fun, and Egyptia, even though she fucks up so bad, she's just so *neat*.
*twirls you*
It's hard to find Lee fans!
Fleets of immaterial, sponge-cake-color clouds were blowing slowly sideways over the blue sky. The little potted palm trees rattled. The pool was green as a fruit acid. With the guitar across his body and resting in his arms, he was sitting not ten feet from me at the brink of the water.

Did you ever read any of ladyjanelly's fic? she started a Jensenbot story and then squicked herself. But can you imagine a Jensen Metal Lover? I CAN. ;P
Here is a good Saki story:

They're best read out loud. :)

I have read and *much* enjoyed ladyjanelly's fic - i may or may not have read a Jensenbot story - my memory is awful, heh.

You know I rely on you for my continued lj training, right? I'm trying to avoid faux pas and poor interweb etiquette, but I'm still a youngin. Despite having had an lj since, like, 2001.
I learn slow.
Thanks!!!

Awesome, bay-bee. You win at lj'ing!!

I hate trying to find all parts of a fic when the author hasn't tagged, or memoried, or linked previous parts, or *anything*. So frustrating!
Ya done good.

I am ashamed to say that although I've read other books by Tanith Lee, I never got around to "Silver Metal Lover." Got to rectify that. *makes a note*
Your ETA makes it sound as if there was some awful event that I'm not aware of. Uh oh.

SML is awesome and yes, you should check it out! There are copies starting at one dollar at abebooks. :)

And yeah - fandom is *insane*. I hope the person who started the whole thing slinks away in shame.

...and who in their right mind would offer up a fic to an actor/crew-type person? *boggles*

:)
And some fans are just....cracked in the head.
no subject
Oh not again. And seriously, it's not as if they aren't coming across it on their own these days, they don't need the help.

At the latest con, apparently Misha aka 'Castiel' said something along the lines of how interesting fandom was as an organic thing, and how he would like to research it some more and understand it without being molested. And that he had read *one* slash fic.
This prompted some asshat to immediately announce that they were going to gather up Castiel slash fic and RPS fic into a bound booklet and 'present' it to him at the next con.
Just.......gods fucking no. A few people thought it was 'awesome' but most everyone else recoiled in horror, so it seems the several posts announcing it to several comms have finally all been taken down.
no subject
And my god, the man has a computer, let him find it on his own if he wants to! Organically. Heh.
no subject
*please gods*
Yeah, i think the man is savvy enough to find his own stuff if he *really* wants to.
no subject
Heh, the last fic I read was yours, "The Lad That Loves You True". You're a tough act to follow, lady.
ETA: Because of yet another horrifying, potential fandom faux-pas in the making, let me say this, for the record. If anyone out there *ever* takes a copy of my fic and gives it to an actor/crew-type person without asking my permission first, i will hunt you down and kill you.
Dude, WTF?!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed the recs!

Oh man - re: ETA. The guy who plays Castiel said at a con that he thought fandom was interesting, organic, and he wanted to explore it a little, understand it. He admitted that he had read *one* fic.
So some idiot gets the golly-gee smrt! idea to collect up a bunch of Castiel slash and RPS fic for him and make a book of it and 'present' it to him at the next con!
Gods. Seems like the absolute *wave* of utter horror has put the kibosh on it, but we shall see....
