*hugs flist*
First - wheeeeeeeee! Look at my house! We just did this today. Cat painted it. :)

If you want a closer 'detailed' view, go here. That's the unpainted half of the Lair.
I'm also writing, yay! and hope to have something to post in the next couple of days.
*twirls
And then there's this, which i thought looked fun. And i agree with almost everything this says, except for the religious part. I'm really not a religious person *at all*. Perhaps spiritual in some ways, but...eh. But fun! Pretty, pretty art. From all over my flist...

Concientious, Fulfilled, and Spiritual
11 Renaissance, 2 Islamic, 5 Ukiyo-e, -24 Cubist, -17 Abstract and -1 Impressionist!

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art. They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion. Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature. Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.
People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging. They tend to have a high emotional stability. They also tend to be more concientious then average. They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do. They enjoy life and enjoy living. They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present. They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered. These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive. They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife. They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature. They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

Cute house too, BTW.
Gotta love the Renaissance paintings. Lovely, lovely work.

I'll make sure Cat *aka
We love our house! Stone houses rule.
I like the detail of Renaissance paintings. All the folds and tucks in the clothing, all the little bits and bobs of jewelry or pattern...very neat.

Julia, doesn't make sense to put them where the cows are the only ones to see then, right?

And yes - i'm not sure the cows quite *get* the complexity of the presidential race.

Non-conformist, Visionary, and Independent
Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which exists independently of what may appear to others as visual realities. Western had been underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. It allowed the progressive thinking artists to show a different side to the world around them. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a 'new kind of art' which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. Abstract artists created art that was diverse and reflected the social and intellectual turmoil in all areas of Western culture.
People that chose abstract art as their preferred artform tend to be visionsaries. They see things in the world around them and in people that others may miss because they look beyond what is visual only with the eye. They rely on their inner thoughts and feelings in dealing with the world around them instead of on what they are told they should think and feel. They feel freed from the tendancy to be bound by traditional thought and experiences. They look more toward their own ideas and experiences than what they are told by their religious upbringing or from scientific evidence. They tend to like to prove theories themselves instead of relying on the insight or ideas of others. They are not bound by common and mundane, but like to travel and have new experiences. They value intelligence, but they also enjoy a challenge. They can be rather argumentative when they are being forced or feel as if they are being forced to conform.

and I have to say: I LOVE the color of the house! Gods, all that warm-colored stone. Does it glow during sunset/sunrise?
Yay for more writing!
no subject
Oh yes. I think he'd do very well doing commercial art, if it could be *different* stuff. He'd be bored silly in a 'straight' job. He needs to work for Blizzard or something.
And thank you! I love our house, too - the colors are *wonderful*, and up close there are all kinds of awesome textures in the stone. It really does look great in diffused light. :)

Just make sure it meets sign codes...There's a guy in Portland who has a giant McCain sign and it survived a fire-bombing(!) a couple weeks ago. The neighbors are all Obama supporters but they support the right of this neighbor to have his dissenting opinion.
Well, someone complained to the city ordinance people (who usually move at a glacial pace) and they've told the guy that it's too big for his yard and he has to get rid of it.
Not that I'm complaining, mind you!
no subject
I honestly have no clue. If anyone complains, i guess we'll deal with it then. Beings it's less than two week 'til the election, i think we'll be safe. Plus, it doesn't block anything or obstruct any views - it's up on a little hill, like, so it's about twelve feet from the roadway. Hard to find anything to complain about!
I'll keep it in mind, though. :)

Cat is so incredibly talented! That is a great sign, really well-designed. And your house is LOVELY.

Posting soon! Yessssss!!
And thank you! We so luff our house. I adore stone houses, have *always* wanted to live in one. This one was built in 1935 and it's just...yeah. Awesome. :)
