Or perhaps it's a rant. I dunno. Anyway. Reading some nice, long big bang fics. And it's wonderful to get good, meaty stories. Wonderful! But...
Is it just me? And it's possible, but...is it just me who gets really, really tired of the 'find one true love, date/hang out with/have sex with one true love, have some massive fight/misunderstanding/freakout, lose one true love, pine for days/months/years over lost love, reconnect and live happily ever after' story line? I mean... Yes, okay. Stories need, apparently, some kind of 'angst' or 'drama' or.....whatever. But...it all seems so *contrived*, and not in the good way.
If i was madly in love, and suddenly my best friend said 'oh, by the way, your soul mate was mackin' on so and so at this party'... My first impulse would *not* be to move out and not talk to them for six months. My *first* impulse would be to confront them, find out the whole story, and *then* decide on what to do.
Am i too boringly practical for fiction? Am i just a spoilsport? I dunno. I'm stuck in one of the original things i'm writing right now because...i don't have any *drama!* . I just don't have some...big, dark, secret from the past *gag*, or some horrible sin or *whatever* to make a big...thing...happen in the story. Why *can't* Tod and London just hang out and be in love and figure out some things? Why does there *have* to be omg!angst! and such?
*sigh*
Tell me, flist, if i am just a dork or *what*, 'cause....i just dunno. Not that i'm hatin' on the stories with this sort of theme, but sometimes i just wish it could go down different.
And, 'cause
rahmi did it and i suddenly got the mad urge to lemming her...
*seriously not for dial-up image below*

Normally, there would also be a little tab for my Yahoo chat window that says 'sweptawaybayou', but she's already in bed.
Now, i'm off to vegetate in front of the tv for a little bit. :)

I agree with you about the angst. I also agree with you that I would actually talk to the love of my life before leaving just because someone said something about them.
Angst is something that you can get without destroying the relationship in question. One of my favorite HP fics has tons of story, tons of plot, lots of good angst, but at no time is there a huge issue with the relationship itself. No, it's not happily ever after through the entire thing, but there is no sabotage of the relationship just to forward the story.

I think it might have a lot to do with the challenge of writing the BB stories that sometimes there's more attention paid to the length of the story and the time frame involved, so plots can seem a bit on the contrived side. Having said that there are some fabulous Big Bang stories that have really had me hooked.
Your lovely Bebe really does look like Summer Glau you know, such a pretty girl.

I love your stories because I love how you write, so whatever you write I will love.

One dumb question.. whats a Big Bang fic?
Also jumps on the 'pretty daughter looks like Summer' bandwagon.

Second--yeah, it's a cliche that's everywhere in every fandom. Because it's satisfying, up to a point. People like to believe that time and distance are as NOTHING! to the one-true-love.
My first impulse would be markedly different from yours. RL sitches are nothing like fandom, where there's magic and cursed objects and cool backstory involved. Most RL cheaters are just faithless liars. Not forever, but for long enough to do damage. And rather stupidly in that scenario. For that reason alone, that'd be quits. Who'd wanna be with someone that blatantly disrespectful, and/ or stupid?
Though, the best friend could be lying. . . .
There'd have to be confrontation, or more likely, in my case sleuthing. I wouldn't be content to take anyone else's word on something that important.
But I digress a lot.
Am i too boringly practical for fiction? Am i just a spoilsport?
Nah. You're awesome. If you dug rehashed cliches, it'd show in your work. I gotta figure anyone who writes like you, isn't gonna put up with any old crap. If it's a re-done cliche, it'd have to be pretty fantastically written to keep your interest.
I dunno. I'm stuck in one of the original things i'm writing right now because...i don't have any *drama!* . I just don't have some...big, dark, secret from the past *gag*, or some horrible sin or *whatever* to make a big...thing...happen in the story.
But your stories don't need big drama to make them good. Your attention to details and characterization mean you don't have to lean heavily on the plotty-ness. Nobody's gotta jump a shark in your fic.

THERE DOESN'T!!!!!! DUDE!!!!! MAKE MORE, NOW!!!!! SHARE!!!!
::clears throat::
Um. If you feel you have to add angst, make it remembrance of past angst? Something they dealt with ages ago, to contrast with the sunny future they're living.

Tod and London!

Again, nah.
I like stories that hover at the edge of that separation . . . then one of the characters realizes how silly they're both being and they resolve to work out whatever their problems are instead of breaking up. A cooling off period, then a rebuilding of trust, yadda-yadda.
The anti!drama. It's very sexeh.
And, 'cause [info]rahmi did it and i suddenly got the mad urge to lemming her...

Who is that? It's a cool picture. Pretty and haunting: SPN-style.

Yes. I do get rather tired of them. But then with my reading habits I tend to read everything I can get my hands on back to back until I'm so sick of it I could hurl.
... o.0
...and then I go and find stories where one of them has been turned into cat!boy and it's all kinky and schmoopy and I feel better again.
