Okay, just a sort of notice post. Our site hosting is expensive, for some reason. We don't have *that* much space, and we get *no* service. And today there's been a back-breaking straw so we're terminating the service. So my website'll be gone sometime soon, as will any pictures here on my LJ 'cause they're all over there.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I dunno how to 'get the word out', as it were. I get a lot of hits on that site and i know people still read stuff over there and it sucks that i won't be able to tell anyone that hey, i'm still here, just not *there*....

Anyway.

Hopefully we'll have it back up soonish. Catbones.com name is up for renewal soon and we can't really do anything until then....although maybe i'll just get my own site or something, i dunno...
*sigh*

What a pain. Anyway - if anybody has any clever ideas for a post somewhere that says 'never fear, only temporary!', that would be cool.

*is grumpy*

That's so aggravating for you, hon...so sorry. :( Do you think that the Herald might be willing to post an announcement for you? That would reach a whole bunch of people who would definitely want to know. I'll bet they'd do it, too, as an informative post.

ETA: Ooohhh, and Bloodclaim, too?

Oh, botheration. I only know cheap web hosting which is specifically local, but good luck and in finding something soon.

Julia, it's all ridiculously complicated, it is.

If you're looking for a hosting service, I recommend www.tigertech.net VERY highly. They handle domain registration and their support is great! Very inexpensive, as well. (If you do go with them, be a doll and use me as your recommedation--I'll get reduced rates for a while. ;-))

In the US, other options for web and/domain hosting include:

GoDaddy.com
DomainDirect.com
Register.com
Joker.com

And you can move your domain registration at any time, often for free if you buy web hosting from a registrar such as those listed above.

I just moved a client to GoDaddy, and set up a web hosting account and email. It was pretty painless, and pretty cheap. Not the $5/month cheap, but the $5/mo. folks are usually pretty unreliable and give lousy support.

Sorry for the frustration. I'm a complete techno-idiot, so I have no assistance to offer. I hope it's taken care of soon. I don't believe I've read everything posted there.

Oh hell, that is a pain. Can't help with the web hosting stuff - self declared luddite here :) but as for where to publish that you're moving, you've got the herald and bloodclaim already suggested - what about [livejournal.com profile] darkerspike and [livejournal.com profile] whedonverse_nb. I also wondered about [livejournal.com profile] spring_of_xan but you'll probably get the same catchment as you'd get on bloodclaim.

On a personal note, it's good to know what's going on - you're on so many of my rec lists that I know I'll get people emailing asking why the links don't work anymore. At least I can give them an answer and point them at your LJ until you find another host.

Take care, hon

No worries, it won't mess me up at all. When I get the time, I'm going to go back through all the rec lists and check out the links - piles of folk have changed servers or just taken their stuff down, so it's been on my 'to do' list for ages anyway. I also need to add a pile of new stuff for the last couple of years. You've just given me a reason to procrastinate a bit longer 'til you get sorted *g*

You couldn't ever mess me up :)
Smooches you right back

People who love you could put notices in their own LJs. God knows I've pimped your stuff often enough, there might be some people who look my way who don't read Bloodclaim--though whether the SGA people have discovered your brilliance, I don't know.

I keep forgetting to watch Supernatural, plus by CW connection is crappy (I've got an antenna). If I watched it, I'd probably be more into it. The boys are definitely lustable.

Aww, but I liked your website!

Good luck with the relocating then! The only thing that stops me from making a website for my photos is the website hosting jungle! Scary!

Spander Files webhost is Siteground and they are fantastic. $5.95 per month, paid yearly, and I've never had a days trouble with them. There is a link on the front page of Spander files. They will let you have the domain name of your choice (as long as it doesn't belong to anyone else of course)

I dunno how to 'get the word out', as it were.
The mail lists are very quiet these days, but they still exist. If you are not still a member, I could send a message for you to the BtVS ones, if you wanted?
I am still on mmslashaholics, excessant, and the xander lists.

Done, to Excessant, hostile-17, stepawayfrommyxander, xander_fic, m-mslashaholics and slashing_the_zeppo.

Dude!

But you're getting another site, right? I mean, Catbones was pretty as all get-out, but . . . the content was what really mattered.
::hugs::
