Reading it again, over and around the love I have for these wonderfully feral boys, I now have this picture of Henrickson slowly recovering and just as slowly getting more and more obsessed. By the time he gets back to work it's all he can think of and every other case he's given takes second place to his dedicated wolfpack hunt, no matter that he's not supposed to be on the case because he's too close, too involved.
I can see him being forcibly retired 'on medical grounds' (crazy obsessed) and then turning himself into a hunter of hunters, trying to get close enough to the boys to understand, because at that level of obsession he wouldn't be able to just take them out or get them caught, he'd need to know why, and what, and how...
