My, it's been a while! :)
*waves*

Just a few things to say, most of them not terribly important but... Yesterday was the first day of fifth grade for the Monstrous Bebe. Wheeeee! She had fun, is looking forward to things, so - all good.

The 11th was the wake - quasi-wake - for my Dad. Some of my cousins came that i hadn't seen in years and years, and we talked and laughed... A lot of his flying buddies were there, and friends from the neighborhood and the hospital... We had a big board covered in pictures from his life, and the planes he'd built on display, and a lot of food, heh. It was, all in all, a very good day.

Some of you know [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou - she's a wonderful, amazing woman. Well, a good friend and colleague of hers has had some very bad luck, and Snow is hoping that people can help. You can read more about it here. Please see if there's anything you can do.

Lastly, the great LJ debate...wheeeeee! I'm not going to comment other than by saying, i'm not currently planning on leaving LJ. I *do* have other journals, and if you are moving or posting anywhere else, please do friend me, as i don't want to lose track of you guys. I'm at Greatest Journal and also Insane Journal, but i only have 'hi, i'm here!' posts over there, and no plans to post more.

It's over 100 degrees here most every day - that's 37 degrees or higher. Plus the humidity is uber-high, so the heat index is insane. OMG, i loathe summer. No rain, either, which at least saves on lawn cutting, but wow - it's all crunchy out there.

Anyway, that's the state of me. Stay tuned for fic soon! Two more Sweet Charity fics to come...

Somehow I missed your earlier post about your dad. I'm so very sorry about it -- I remember your posts and photos about him and your mom, and the love you have for him came shining through. He must have been such a wonderful person. The wake sounds like it was a grand celebration of his life.

Congratulations to Monstrous for starting fifth grade. I know she will have a great year! I hope it cools off soon for you. We were just in Tennessee recently and it was awfully hot, hovering around the 100F mark, with terrible humidity along with it. This weather is nasty.

We miss him terribly, but the memories are good.

*hugs you up*

The quasi-wake sounds like a good idea. And yeah, it's good to remember, to talk to people who have memories of your dad that you weren't a part of, to laugh and smile at those pieces of the past. It's kind of like seeing him through someone else's eyes, isn't it? And it seems to ease the grief, even if the respite is only temporary.

School started there already? That seems so early to me, LOL.

xxx

ps-take care of you.

Nice to see you back here. I'm glad you got a chance to be with folk who knew your dad and shared the parts of hime they knew. Keeps people we care about alive in our memories. I'm also on GJ and IJ (though I haven't done anything with IJ other than open the account. I guess I should make at least an opening post). Definitely want to keep in touch with you if there should be a great fleeage. I don't think there will be, but just in case. In the meantime, take care ::hugs::

5th grade! Oh lord, I remember your post about her turning 8 and it feels like it was only a wee time ago and now 5th grade.

Good to see you.

Wakes can be wonderful, tiring things. Sounds like your dad had (as my grandmother would say) a good turnout. And your dad had planes, huh? Ever wonder what our loved ones will display to honor us?

We buried the family jokester yesterday (my dad's last surviving sister)and the reception turned into Last Mourner Standing because everyone wanted to tell jokes in her memory. So maybe when I go folks'll read RPS.

*ponders*

And you have a fifth grader! Tee-hee!!!

:D

37 degrees! Bloody hell! We're having Winter here, it's currently 0930 am and 10 degrees (about 47 degrees in American) as Winter in Australia is rarely too savage, but our Summers can be just like you are decribing and I dread them, so you have my sympathy.

At the moment I'm trying to eke out the last of the firewood so I wont have to pay for another delivery. Trying to only burn in the evenings when the days are sunny like they've been the last week or so.

Shame I can't send you some chill winds and you can't send over a bit of warmth. Unfair.

Congrats on Monstrous attaining year 5. They grow so fast. Stay well, luv.

Hi honey, welcome back. :)
Glad to hear the wake went well. *hug*
Makes me think of my grandfather's wake, there is a photo somewhere of my mum and her cousins, all dressed in black, posing in a can-can line in the back garden. He'd have loved it!

Okay, when I was in 5th grade, school started in September. Another 17 years and the new school year will start a week after the old one ended.

The LJ debate is still going on? I take a month off and still?

I reiterate: your dad sounds like an interesting and cool guy. And he flew planes.

I'm broke until my next paycheck, but I'll definitely be sending money or a giftcard--something for Sweptawaybayou's friend.

NY weather has been fairly uncrazy the past two weeks. Calm before the storm, says I. And by storm, I mean excessive heat.
