And how many times did Angel travel to Sunnydale to torture Spike? I think ... uh ... NONE.
Um, I'm not the ace of canon or anything, but it seems to me that Spike didn't have a soul yet when he slung angel up and had him tortured. Ah the glory days, living fun and guilt free. What a delicious scene it was!
How many times did Angel save the world?
Not nearly as many times as Buffy did, but I don't consider that enough to redeem her of her gross shortfalls either. Saving the world is a nifty plot device, but sure not enough to make me like the characters simply because they fulfilled their white-hat-guy duty.
What limitations were put on Spike's soul as opposed to Angel's? And if you couldn't have the person you wanted more than anything in the world, had to, in fact, stay away from her in order to let her have a semi-normal life ... how happy, thrilled, pleased would you be with the rest of your life?
And voila, a license to brood. I'm down with that. And it works! He really wouldn't be his Eeyore'ish self without said license. =)
Angel spent a hundred years coming to terms with the atrocities he'd committed as Angelus. Spike spent what? Two weeks in a basement? Depth of character, people. Depth of character.
Umm... here I tend to want to debate what that all really implies. To me, I just see Spike as being able to "get over it and move on" a lot quicker than Angel did. Why? Depth of character? Dunno about that. Angel was a bit older, had more regrets, I might speculate that he just had more "conscience" about the atrocities he commited than Spike. Some men with souls can do a lot of evil anyway. (I might site a certain Nazi dictator as an example.) Does a lack of conscience for one's sins imply shallowness? I suppose that's all in how you like your character flavors. Personally I'm one of those guys who tends to root for a semi-likable villain to begin with. *grin* From my perspective, his quick ability to bounce back makes me feel like Spike is a lot more "in control" of his soul and his conscience than Angel ever was. Depth of character in this situation might be all in how you interpret things, dependant on what flavor of soul-wielding vampire you like. =)
And I'm not even going to address the comments about Angel's facial structure, because that's just whoa ... kindergarten.
How mean of me. Heeeee. Like picking on the kids on the short bus. *Tsk Tsk. You ornery Cat.* I know, I shouldn't pick on Angel's (well, Dave's) cranial malformity, it is rather juvenile. Wait. Who said anything about wanting to grow up? By damn I like being a kid! If we can't pick on some ficticious characters and some actors and actresses somewhere on the other side of the country from us, who can we pick on? *grin*
Sorry to dissapoint, I'm not an Angel luvva'. BUT - like I said in my storyline post, I was just funnin'. I tend to mock him a lot. It's nothing personal.
