It's not so much that I thought that it would be any random person's soul as that... well, would a soul have an identity? I always thought that it was the person's memories that created the person, and with a soul they had a conscience and thus interpereted the memories differently, but the soul didn't control who they were. I mean, when Angel has his soul back he doesn't suddenly turn into Liam, because if he did he'd either turn back into being a drunken wastrel or seek out the Church because of his Irish Catholic upbringing. But he doesn't, because he's still the same vampire as he was without the soul, only he sees things differently. Same with Spike- he doesn't spontaneously turn back into a meek, timid poetry geek, he's still Spike. Just different.
