Joss/ME don't make much sense with their stories. Joss got fascinated with Alexis Denisof and decided to focus more on his character than on Angel. Plus, I'm sure he decided the ladies would get all hot for him being alone, wounded, and abandoned by his friends. Then, he turned him into this hot Marlboro Man who could shoot like John Wayne and fight like a Green Beret, over a summer. And he got to have near naked hot sex with Lilah constantly.
The way he kept Cordelia, Gunn, Fred, Lorne away from Wes was absurd.
Cordelia was a busybody. She'd have been over bitching him out and straightening it all out in 15 minutes. Gunn loved loved loved Wesley, and having them split over skinny Fred and Connor was ridiculous. The Gunn whose eyes shined with love and affection when Wesley was shot, who threatened Angel over Wes wouldn't have turned on him. And Fred little Miss Fix It too. Her heart was as *big as Texas* and she would have stayed friends with Wesley. When Lorne read Wesley when he sang, he would have seen more than "Wes's stealing Connor." He always saw more than 3 minutes into a person's life.
Of course, I get Angel hating him because he stole his son from him, and Angel's always been a short-tempered, impulsive guy. But the fact that after they figured out the prophecy was fake, and they didn't go to Wesley to find out what else he knew was too strange.
Logic never mattered to ME. Continuity never mattered, slaughtering characters and destroying relationships matter. It was all about, "Ooooh, wouldn't it be cool if Wesley ended up with this big scar on his throat and got even broodier than Angel?
